Create An Irresistible Lead Magnet

How good is your ethical bribe?

Your email list is the foundation of your online business. If it isn’t then it should be.

And in order to motivate people to sign up, we usually give something away in exchange for someone’s contact information.

The give away, often called a “lead magnet”, should be irresistible to your site visitors. So much so that they can’t help but put themselves on your email list just so they can get their hands on it.

Are you ready to create a lead magnet that works?

The reason I’m asking is because I am in full lead magnet creation mode at the moment. You may be aware that I am in the process of migrating my current membership site to a new platform and completely re-organizing the content with brand new videos and downloadable content that has never been released.

I am currently working on the lead magnet.

Have you wondered what makes a lead magnet irresistible?

First off, your business has to be about what problem you solve for your customers. The give away has to solve a little bit of their problems. If you solve all of their problems, then why should they continue following you?

Let’s take a nutrition coach. A great give away might be “5 easy super nutritious dinner recipes that can be made in 20 minutes or less.”

In my case, without letting  the cat out of the bag, “a list building technique that solves lead generation whether you stay on my list or not.”

When you give away something that people can see results from right away, you build authority and trust. Once they’re on your list, you show them how you can get them further down that path. Because you’ve already shown them something useful, they will be more inclined to stick around.

Here are some types of give aways that are easiest to create.

  • Repurpose something that is already done without copying someone else’s work verbatim.
    • turn it into a PDF
    • script it out and read it to create an audio
    • create a power point and use video capture
  • Create new content and use any of the above methods of delivery.
  • Check lists and top 10 lists are very popular and easy to create.

Where many marketers fail is in the follow through. They’ve captured their lead but fail to provide valuable information that will keep them wanting more.

How do you choose a topic people want to know more about:

  1. If you’re a blogger, take a look at your previous content and identify the blog that got the most responses. See if you can build it out a little more to make it more relevant to what is going on today.
  2. If you don’t have a body of work, look to some of the best work that is in your market. Don’t plagiarize but look at the most popular content that people respond to in your market and create your own point of view.

Some extra tips that might come in handy:

  • Become a content reviewer and give it a unique angle.
  • Use real facts that can be easily verified. This creates authority and trust.
  • Keep it fairly short. After all, you’re not giving away all your secrets, just “some” of them that will help right now.
  • Get help if you’re stuck

So what is your giveaway that helps you build your list? Is it just rehashed content or is it unique?

Look at it this way. If you were to land on your capture page and see the give away, would you want it?
